John Varvatos debuted his latest flagship this week on the Upper East Side, whose design was partially inspired by the rock ‘n’ roll menswear designer’s own home, WWD reports. The 4,200-square foot space is floored in white oak herringbone with convex mirrored panels covering the ceiling, mixing in uptown charm with the label’s decidedly downtown vibe.
The designer sees great appeal in catering his stores to their specific neighborhoods. “New York is such a small city, yet it’s so big at the same time,” Varvatos told the paper. “We could possibly have stores on the Upper West Side and downtown. We’re looking at the World Trade Center.”
This latest store, which WWD points out is the brand’s first above Second Street, features mannequins painted to look like the members of Kiss, who star in the brand’s current ad campaign. The flagship offers the full range of tailored clothing, footwear, accessories, and limited-edition watches—not to mention a selection of luxe audio equipment by Symbol.
And speaking of music, the designer is launching his own music label, John Varvatos Records. It’s just one part of a huge push for the brand that includes more stores across the country, dedicated footwear and accessories stores, and perhaps the resurrection of womenswear down the line.
